Route description
This tour takes us to a town that lived through an astonishing duality. Two administrations coexisted : that of Ennezat Le Chastel, around the castle, and that of Villeneuve-d’Ennezat, a walled town with a regular urban plan.
Guidebook with maps/step-by-step
Step 1 : Turn right on route de Riom, then right at l’archange saint Michel.
Step 2 : Continue along rue du Colombier, past the remains of the ramparts and an ancient fountain with Gallo-Roman aqueduct.
Step 3 : At the end of the street, a half-timbered porch dovecote on stilts. Cross the Route de Randan and take Rue du Stade. Fountain and Romanesque capital nearby. Turn right into rue de la Fontaine, then cross Place du Foirail and Place des Anciens Combattants. Pass close to a crossroads.
Step 4 : Follow the allée des Marronniers to reach the Place du Pré-Madame.
Next step
Step 5 : At rue de la Poste, turn left, then right into rue de la Porte Neuve. Before the gendarmerie, take rue de l’Horloge and turn right at rue de la République. Turn right into rue de la Poste, then right again into rue des Augustins, where you’ll find the town hall.
Step 6 : Turn left into rue du 11 novembre and return to the starting point via rue de la République.

To find the starting point : from Riom, follow signs for Ennezat. Enter the town center on the D224. Parking in front of the church.
