Route description

A pleasant little stroll that lives up to its name, with panoramic views of the Château de la Roue, the Prabouré slopes, the Hautes-Chaumes, the Ance valley and the village of Saint-Anthème.

Step 1 : From the Tourist Office, place de l’Aubépin, take the D 996 towards Montbrison. Pass the Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Rencontre chapel. Continue along this road. At La Vierge, take a dirt track to the right (view of Château du Chalard to the left). Cross the small bridge and turn left up a gravel path alongside a wood. Turn right at the crow’s-foot.

Step 2 : At a house, turn right again at an acute angle onto a sunken track leading to Beauvoir (view of Château de la Roue on the right). Pass between the houses and go down the track opposite at the end of the hamlet. Continue straight ahead on a steeper track towards Le Mont. In this hamlet, take the tarmac track on the left and continue (with a view of the village of Saint-Anthème) to the hamlet of Le Pinet.

Step 3 : At the end of Le Pinet, turn left at the crossroads. 400 m further on, at the crossroads, take the right-hand path leading downhill. Leave a house on your left and fork right. At the end of the wood, turn left and cross the Faud. Turn right onto the D67. Turn right, then immediately take the path leading down to the left. Turn right onto the D261 towards the village.

For your own safety, always take a bottle of water, a hat, warm clothing and footwear suitable for walking.
Depending on weather conditions, certain itineraries are not recommended in bad weather (fog) or are not practicable, or even forbidden, during the winter season.
Some sites are fragile, so stay on the marked trails. Avoid picking wild flowers and disturbing wildlife. Pick up your garbage.
Animals are not allowed on some routes.

Access

From the town of Ambert, take the D996 towards Montbrison. Follow the main road over the Col des Pradeaux to Saint-Anthème.
