Route description

Château Rocher, a medieval military fortress in the heart of the Combrailles, protected the border between the Auvergne and Bourbonnais regions. From here, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the Sioule gorges and the Rochocol meander.

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step

Step 1 : Prendre la route montant derrière la mairie. Après 300 m, emprunter le chemin de terre à droite. Le descendre jusqu’à un embranchement où l’on continue sur la droite. Suivre ce chemin jusqu’au ruisseau.

Step 2 : Passer le ruisseau et partir à gauche en direction de Château Rocher. Au carrefour suivant, prendre sur la gauche. Continuer le chemin jusqu’à la route.

Step 3 : Suivre la route à gauche sur 400 m. Dans un virage à gauche en face d’un parking, la quitter pour monter sur la gauche un sentier dans les bois. Passer devant les ruines de Château Rocher (de l’intérieur du château, belle vue sur les gorges de la Sioule et le Pont de Menat). Continuer jusqu’à Blot-Rocher.

Step 4 : Dans le hameau, monter la route sur la droite. Continuer par le chemin herbeux, puis tout droit. Passer devant une croix et continuer jusqu’à la route que l’on prend à droite pour rejoindre le point de départ.

Additional information

For your own safety, always take a bottle of water, a hat, warm clothing and footwear suitable for walking.
Depending on weather conditions, certain itineraries are not recommended in bad weather (fog) or are not practicable, or even forbidden, during the winter season.
Some sites are fragile, so stay on the marked trails. Avoid picking wild flowers and disturbing wildlife. Pick up your garbage.
Animals are not allowed on some routes.
