Starting from the northern outskirts of Clermont-Ferrand (notably towards Trémonteix or the Côtes plateau), the off-road version of the ‘Site des Côtes et Puy de Chanturgue’ circuit is a very popular playground for local mountain bikers. Set amongst inverted volcanic landforms and unspoilt natural areas, this route offers a dynamic profile, perfect for mountain biking and e-MTBs.
Highlights of the mountain bike route :
• Views over Clermont-Ferrand : Superb, unobstructed viewpoints at the summit of the Puy de Chanturgue and along the Plateau des Côtes, overlooking the city, the Limagne and the Chaîne des Puys.
• Riding challenges and varied terrain : A stimulating mix of physically demanding climbs through woodland, rolling sections across the plateau, winding single-track trails and descents that can be stony in places.
• A historic and natural setting : Ride through former vineyard slopes, high-altitude dry grasslands and past archaeological sites.
