Route description
On the RD 36, a few kilometers from the pass, you’ll find the Rocher de l’Aigle, offering a breathtaking view of the Monts Dore. The descent from the pass to Besse takes in the Durbise plateau and its vast pastures.
This legendary pass in the Sancy massif, perched at an altitude of 1451 m, has already seen the Grande Boucle pass through several times, in 2011, 2023 and 2025.

This legendary pass in the Sancy massif, perched at an altitude of 1451 m, has already seen the Grande Boucle pass through several times, in 2011, 2023 and 2025.
Would you like to climb to the summit ? 2 options : – Start from the Murol tourist office, at 785 m altitude : 13.5 km ascent to the summit, ascent + : 623 m, perfect for warming up the calves ! – Departure from La Bourboule tourist office : 13.5 km climb to the summit, elevation gain : 600 m.
A few tips for a safe cycling outing : Remain cautious, as the road is used by other vehicles, and access is also authorized to local residents. To each his own… Cycle touring is a sporting activity, but above all it’s a leisure activity that everyone can enjoy at their own pace. Bring your own equipment… BICYCLE AND HELMET : check the braking system and the condition of the tires. Make sure your bike is properly adjusted to your body type.
