This walk in the heart of the Combrailles region takes in the Fades reservoir, the largest lake in the département, offering a host of water-based pleasures. There are numerous viewpoints over Les Fades, the Chaîne des Puys and the Sioule gorges.
– 12th-century Romanesque church.
– View of the Sioule gorges.
Étape 1 : From the signpost at Place de l’Eglise (12th-century Romanesque church), turn right onto the first road opposite the war memorial. Continue as far as a calvary and take the path on the right. Continue straight ahead and descend to the road. Follow it to the right as far as the middle of Sagne (view of the Fades lake).
Étape 2 : Turn left down the grassy path towards the lake until you reach the road. Follow it to the left as far as the second hairpin bend.
Étape 3 : Turn left onto a path (wooden barrier at the start), then climb up into the woods on the winding path (halfway up the hill, information and view of the Sioule gorges). At the T-junction, turn right. Continue uphill along the main path. When you reach the plateau, continue straight ahead (view of the Chaîne des Puys). At the entrance to the village of La Brousse, at the fork (large lime tree), turn left onto the Chemin des Plagnaux as far as the bus shelter.
Étape 4 : Turn left as far as the crossroads. Go down the track on the left towards the woods. At the next crossroads, turn right down the main path and then left at the hairpin bend. Just before the end of the descent, turn right onto a path that crosses a stream and leads slightly uphill into the woods. Continue downhill towards another stream. Continue uphill, crossing the stream several times. Turn left away from the stream and climb up to the road.
Étape 5 : Go down it to the left, then take the first path to the right. Go straight up to reach a fork (wooden cross), turn left and continue as far as the road. Go left, then 20 m further on, ignore the road on the left and rejoin the starting point.
