A pleasant trail that leads through beech woods but is mainly open country with wide views over the Combrailles. The heritage is concentrated in the village of Saint-Hilaire-les-Monges: church, biface cross, well, wash-house, etc.
– Heritage: Romanesque church, cross.
– Views of the Combrailles, the Puy-Saint-Gulmier hillock and the church’s terraced bell tower.
Étape 1 : From the start sign (Romanesque church), head right down a small road that becomes a path between two hedges (view of the Combrailles). At a fork, stay on the right-hand path. Cross the bottom of the valley and, at the crossroads, take the track on the right and climb up to a road.
Étape 2 : Follow this road to the right for 200 m. At the second fork in the road (cross), turn left and continue straight ahead. Ignore a track on the left and walk along the edge of the wood. At the crossroads, cross the road and head straight ahead towards Les Rouchons. Continue along this road through the forest as far as a pond.
Étape 3 : Leave the road, go right into the forest and follow the main path. At the end of the wood, turn left onto a small road (with a view of the Puy-Saint-Gulmier hillock and the terraced church tower). At the crossroads, turn right, pass by a cross (1670) and reach the car park.
