Built in 1898 and listed as a Monument Historique, the Capucin funicular embodies all the charm of the Belle Époque. It climbs to an altitude of 1245 meters at the Salon du Capucin for easy access to hiking trails, the Sylvatorium, the Mont-Dore Aventures park and the Capucin via-ferrata. This little train, a real cable railway, climbs up the side of the valley at a speed of 1 metre per second. It’s the oldest electric funicular in France.

Take time to admire the Art Deco style of the departure station, enlarged in 1930, and the large cogwheels, reminiscent of Charlie Chaplin’s Modern Times, in the engine room of the upper station. Following in the footsteps of the artists who came to take the waters during the Belle Époque, the descent from the Salon du Capucin via the Chemin des Artistes or the Chemin des Médecins is an easy way to continue your journey back in time.

– The “ticket rando” : combines the purchase of a cable car ride (outward or return) and a funicular ride (outward or return), to be used on the same day to discover the Sancy peaks on foot.

– The combi ticket : combines the purchase of a round-trip cable car ticket and a round-trip funicular ticket (to be used on different days).
