Route description
From Montmorin and its castle, this lovely wooded circuit offers fine views of the Château de Coppel, the Chaîne des Puys, Billom and Limagne. The walk ends at the Etang des Maures, with its beautiful house with dovecote and bread oven.

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step
Step 1 : From the picnic area, take the road down towards Coissard / Puyfoulhoux, ignoring the road to Champciaux on the right. 300 m further on, take the first path that rises to the left (view of Coppel castle to the right).
Step 2 : Cross the road and continue uphill, the road becoming a path (view of Coppel castle, Clermont-Ferrand and the Chaîne des Puys to the right ; Montmorin castle and church, Billom and the two Turlurons to the rear). Cross the hamlet of Les Plaines and continue straight ahead on the same road. At a bend in the road, continue straight ahead on a stony track. At the edge of the Etang des Maures, at the road, turn right, skirting the dike. Continue along the road, leaving a path on the left that runs alongside the pond, and continue to Segnoux.
Step 3 : In Segnoux, at the bread oven, turn right and continue straight ahead between the houses, the road becomes a grassy path, continue straight ahead. At the exit (view of the ruined château de Coppel, the Chaîne des Puys and the two Turlurons on the left ; the Limagne plain opposite, château de Montmorin on the right), continue straight ahead on a sunken track through the woods.
Step 4 : At the first house in Serpanoux, turn left and enter the hamlet. 20 m further on, leave the D14 on your left and continue straight ahead through the hamlet. Continue on this path until you reach the road (view of Montmorin castle and church opposite ; ruins of Coppel castle, Clermont-Ferrand, Chaîne des Puys and Puy de Dôme to the left). At the road, continue uphill to reach the picnic area (on the left, A-R château de Montmorin : 30 min).

Additional information
For your own safety, always take a bottle of water, a hat, warm clothing and footwear suitable for walking.
Depending on weather conditions, certain itineraries are not recommended in bad weather (fog) or are not practicable, or even forbidden, during the winter season.
Some sites are fragile, so stay on the marked trails. Avoid picking wild flowers and disturbing wildlife. Pick up your garbage.
Animals are not allowed on some routes.

Access
From Bourg de Billom, take the D9 towards Montmorin. Turn left onto the D 301 to reach the village of Montmorin.
