Route description

On the edge of the Creuse département, you can take a leisurely stroll through a wild environment of pastures and forests before finally discovering the pleasant 22-hectare Etang Neuf.

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step

Step 1 : From the start sign, follow the pond to the left. Follow the road to the hamlet of Corrioux-Hauts. At the fork (cross), turn right onto the road, which continues along a wide path. Ignoring the paths on your left, continue to the first path on your right. Take this for a 10-minute round trip to a pontoon on the edge of the pond (view of the pond). Return to the main path. Turn right, leaving the first track on your right. Continue to a second path on the right.

Step 2 : Follow it, cross a pond inlet on a pontoon and walk through a wood. At the T junction, go right to the next junction with a track on the left.

Step 3 : Take this, leaving two paths on your left, then cross over a pontoon. At the intersection, keep right and return to the starting point.

Additional information

For your own safety, always take a bottle of water, a hat, warm clothing and footwear suitable for walking.
Depending on weather conditions, certain itineraries are not recommended in bad weather (fog) or are not practicable, or even forbidden, during the winter season.
Some sites are fragile, so stay on the marked trails. Avoid picking wild flowers and disturbing wildlife. Pick up your garbage.
Animals are not allowed on some routes.

Between Montel-de-Gelat and Dontreix, Etang Neuf is on the left. Start at the picnic area opposite Etang Neuf.
