Route description

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step

Step 1 : From the sign, go downhill towards the vacation village, cross a road, go downhill opposite and follow a track to the left. At the road, turn left as far as the “one-way” sign.

Step 2 : Take the left-hand path towards “lac du Guéry”. Keep right and climb up to the edge of the wood. Leaving a track on your right, continue straight on, following the signs for “lac du Guéry”, until you reach the footbridge crossing the first stream.

Step 3 : Continue along the track, crossing two more streams. Turn left and follow the GR30 towards “lac du Guéry”. Cross a stepladder and continue along the path to the left of the stream as far as the signposts. Leave the GR30 and take a left-hand path towards “Banne d’Ordanche”. Climb the “Tenon” hillock and continue to the “Saint-Laurent” pass.

Step 4 : At the pass, turn left (view of the Sancy and Plomb du Cantal). Continue in the direction of La Banne until you reach a staircase (view of La Bourboule, Artense and Combrailles, off PR climb to La Banne via the staircase, orientation table). Continue along the grassy path to the aeromodelling parking lot. Take the left-hand road to a crossroads.

Next step

Step 5 : Turn right onto the road, then quickly left onto a track leading downhill towards Murat-le-Quaire. Continue straight on, ignoring the paths on the right and left, until you reach the road on the left, which takes you back to the starting point.

Additional information

For your own safety, always take a bottle of water, a hat, warm clothing and footwear suitable for walking.
Depending on weather conditions, certain itineraries are not recommended in bad weather (fog) or are not practicable, or even forbidden, during the winter season.
Some sites are fragile, so stay on the marked trails. Avoid picking wild flowers and disturbing wildlife. Pick up your garbage.
Animals are not allowed on some routes.

Access

In Murat-le-Quaire (above La Bourboule), opposite the church, turn left onto the D 609. Turn left after the lake, and turn right at the end of the parking lot.
