Route description

This circuit on a wooded plateau offers beautiful panoramic views of the Sancy, Dordogne and Combrailles foothills. The village of Granges and its castle ruins are well worth a visit, as is Tauves with its important rural crafts.

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step

Step 1 : Du panneau de départ derrière la mairie, traverser la rue principale et emprunter la rue face à la fontaine. Au rond-point, continuer en direction de La Tour-d’Auvergne. À la première intersection monter à gauche vers Tyrande. Au virage à l’entrée du hameau continuer tout droit dans un chemin creux jusqu’à la D922 (aire de pique-nique).

Step 2 : La traverser et poursuivre en face entre les bâtiments de la laiterie. Continuer tout droit sur ce chemin, passer un ruisseau et aller jusqu’au carrefour dans le village de Granges. Poursuivre en face entre les maisons. À la fourche (chapelle et ruines du château), descendre à gauche puis bifurquer à droite pour contourner la butte et revenir en contrebas de la chapelle. Continuer tout droit, prendre le premier chemin à gauche et monter jusqu’à un chemin goudronné.

Step 3 : Prendre à gauche. À la route (vue sur le massif du Sancy et les monts du Cantal) continuer en face. À la fourche, partir à droite et à la suivante, descendre tout droit sur un chemin jusqu’à Tauves. Traverser la D922, suivre la D29a sur 100 m puis se diriger vers le centre bourg et descendre pour rejoindre le point de départ.

Additional information

For your own safety, always take a bottle of water, a hat, warm clothing and footwear suitable for walking.
Depending on weather conditions, certain itineraries are not recommended in bad weather (fog) or are not practicable, or even forbidden, during the winter season.
Some sites are fragile, so stay on the marked trails. Avoid picking wild flowers and disturbing wildlife. Pick up your garbage.
Animals are not allowed on some routes.
