Route description
From the banks of the Allier, you can discover the Limagne region and Beauregard-l’Évêque, the former summer residence of the bishops of Clermont, which has preserved some fine remains, including the castle and the Saint-Aventin chapel, one of the oldest chapels in Auvergne.

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step
Step 1 : Opposite the start sign, in the parking lot, turn left. Turn right into rue de l’Ecole, then left into rue du Château and left into rue du Sauplant as far as Grand-Rue. Turn right into Place de l’Eglise. Turn right into rue de la Poste. At the intersection, turn left, then right at the crossroads, then right again on Rue Sous le Château. After 30 m, turn left into the parallel street (château). Keep right as far as the belvedere cross (view of Courcourt tower, Limagne plain, puys chain).
Step 2 : Take the grassy path down to the road, following it to the left. At the T-junction, leave the village on the right. Turn right at the first junction, left at the second. Descend towards the Jauron stream. Cross the bridge and continue. Pass through the Saint-Pardoux farming estate (turreted building). Leave the road and take the first path on the right up to a T-junction.
Step 3 : Turn right (view of the Allier). Go straight ahead (Saint-Aventin chapel). Cross the stream again. Take the second track on the left. Go straight ahead. At the crossroads on the banks of the Allier, turn right into the woods. Turn right at the fork. After 50 m, at the T-junction, turn right and head up towards the wood exit. Continue as far as the crossroads.
Step 4 : Go left up the hill. After 50 m, turn right onto the grassy path leading to the road. Go left up into the village. At the fork in the road, turn right onto chemin de Chantagret towards the stadium. Go around it to the left. At the crossroads with the Grand-Rue, turn right back to the starting point.

Additional information
For your own safety, always take a bottle of water, a hat, warm clothing and footwear suitable for walking.
Depending on weather conditions, certain itineraries are not recommended in bad weather (fog) or are not practicable, or even forbidden, during the winter season.
Some sites are fragile, so stay on the marked trails. Avoid picking wild flowers and disturbing wildlife. Pick up your garbage.
Animals are not allowed on some routes.

Access
From Pont-du-Château, east of Clermont-Ferrand, take the D2089 towards Thiers and, 2 km from Chignat, turn left on the D4 to Beauregard-l’Evêque. Parking lot in front of the Mairie, below the Maison du Peuple.
