Hiking route BOUCLE
Marking Blue
A circuit on a volcanic cheire with typical vegetation (broom, gentian) away from the tourist circuits. After the charming bridge over the Gazelle, the slopes of the Montcineyre volcano and the Chauméane woods offer views of the Cézallier.
Saint-Gorgon chapel.
Step 1 : From the roadside sign at the entrance to Place de l’Eglise, drive through the village on the D26. One hundred metres after the fountain, turn left onto a path between two low walls. Pass a stone cross and continue straight ahead. At the road, turn right for 250 m to reach a bridge in a hairpin bend.
Step 2 : Before the bridge, take the track opposite. Cross the stream (La Gazelle) and climb through undergrowth for 300 m. Take the first left-hand path along the stream, crossing it on a wooden footbridge. Cross a fence (ladder) and follow the path overlooking the stream. Cross a second ladder and then the stream. Follow the reach, then cross it to reach the road. Cross the bridge and continue along the road until it intersects with a wide track on the left.
Step 3 : Continue along the road for 30 m, then turn right towards Ferme de la Roche. When you reach the buildings, turn right onto a path that leads down to the Saint-Gorgon chapel (chapelle). Follow the same path back to point 2.
Turn right onto the wide path (signposted above). Cross a stream, pass a quarry and climb up through the undergrowth to an open level (viewpoint). Leave this path and take a left-hand path down through the trees to another perpendicular path.
Step 4 : Turn left for 300 m and take a path on the right between two low walls. Join the road and follow it to the right. At the crossroads, turn left towards Compains to get back to the starting point.
