Route description

This equestrian route invites riders to explore the picturesque landscapes of the Combrailles region of the Auvergne. The first stage from Vitrac takes you past the Roche de Sauterre lookout and the Fais’Art trail.

Step 1 – Vitrac > Chapdes-Beaufort
This step is 24.2 km long with an elevation gain of 555 m. It starts from Vitrac and joins the locality Les Girauds (Chapdes-Beaufort).It runs alongside the ponds of Gagne and Marsins before climbing to the viewpoint of the Sauterre rock from which you(…)

Étape 61 : Head towards Gagne then Les Magneaux. Before Les Magneaux, turn left and cross the D19.

Étape 1 : ?? Follow signs for the village of Mazal. Before the village, take the Sur les Bruyères path on the right (view of the tanning basin). Turn left after the basin, then take the path on the right. Cross the D416.

Étape 2 : ?? Head towards the Marsins pond and follow it on the east side, then continue along the path. Take the path on the left towards the village of Champelbot and turn right before the village. Then take the path on the left to the village of Mérilhat. In the village, turn right twice, then on leaving the village, take the path on the right, then the first on the left. Follow this direction to the antennas.

Étape 3 : ?? Return trip to the Roche de Sauterre viewpoint. Then take the path down to the foot of the Roche de Sauterre, then descend to the D50 and turn right twice to reach the Chemin de la Buchaille.

Étape 4 : ?? At La Buchaille, continue towards the village of Blanchet. Turn right onto the D90, then, after the traffic lights, take Rue des Forges on the left, then Rue de Chantoiseau and follow the road to the village of L’Etang. (Etang Barbot and Etang Grand are nearby, so you can make a round trip to enjoy the picnic area).

Étape 5 : ?? In the village of L’Etang, leave Chemin de la Ganne and take Route de l’Etang on the right. Continue along the path to La Palle, take the road on the right and then the first path on the left. Stay on the main path and, at the cross, take the path on the right towards the Vierge de Beaufort. Follow the Chemin Fais’art, then exit via the marked path to the D418. Follow the PR markings to the cross, then turn right twice and follow the path to the village of Bellechard, crossing through it. Take the path on the right to the village of Les Girauds.
The gîte is located at 2 Route des Ancizes, in the village of Les Girauds.

From Manzat (30 km north-west of Clermont-Ferrand), follow the D 227 then the D 19 towards Saint Georges-de-Mons. Enter Vitrac via the D414. Follow Rue du Bourg to the church. Opposite the church, turn left onto Place de l’Église. Parking is available on the left after the junction with Rue du Cimetière.
