Route description

A tour in a beautiful area between the Allier and the ” Nid d’aigle ” of Buron through a path that is both village-like and country-like, leading to the summit of the puy Rousset, from where you can overlook the ruins of a 13th century feudal castle. Nice views.

Starting point – From the starting sign, go up rue de Chabonat (fire brigade). At the last house, the street becomes a path (view on the Sancy and Montpeyroux massif). Continue on this path, ignoring the right and left paths, until you reach the entrance of the village of Buron(…)

1 – Go up the street to the left and ignore the path of the Buron fountain. Go up the main street for 30 m, turn right into rue de Fontbuisson and go up rue de la Forge to the main street. Take it on the right for 150 m, go through the car park and go up on the left towards the church. To the right, go down the path under the wall. Ignore the dead end on the left and turn left.
At the Buron exit sign, at the fork, turn left onto the D 760. In Les Verdiers, go down the main street to the right. 30 m before the Calvary, turn right on Chemin de Largeleix. At the cemetery, continue to the left to enter Yronde. At the crossroads take the rue de l’Horloge on the left. Walk along the church and take the path of the Vias. Take the left track (other yellow PR on the right) to go up to the intersection (cross).

2 – Go straight ahead, ignoring the right and left paths, then continue straight ahead until you reach a crossing on the plateau.

3 – Turn left (radio relay / 180° panorama on the Cézallier, Sancy, Chaîne des Puys) and continue until the road. Follow it on the right for 50 m and then take the first road on the left. At the first intersection go down on the left. At the road, go opposite and follow the D 760 for 50 m. At the metal cross, take the right track. At the first intersection, turn left and continue straight ahead until you reach a crossroads of 5 paths.

4 – Go up in front then stay on the left on a grassy path. At a cross, go straight ahead (view of Montpeyroux). At the entrance to the village of Parent, at a fountain, go down to the left. At the next fountain, follow the direction of the VVF, on the left to return to the starting point.

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step

Step 1 : Monter à gauche la rue de la Source et ignorer le chemin de la fontaine de Buron. Continuer à droite par la rue de Fontbuisson et monter la rue de la Forge jusqu’à la rue principale. La prendre à droite jusqu’à la Place de la Chapelle puis monter à gauche vers la Chapelle (panneau d’information, plafond peint). Se diriger à droite vers l‘abside et ,20m après celle-ci, s’engager sur la route à gauche (borne d’info géologique) jusqu’à atteindre la dernière maison sur la droite.

Step 2 : / Poursuivre la montée jusqu’à un escalier sur la gauche. L’emprunter (aire de pique-nique) et monter jusqu’à la plateforme supérieure du château (tables d’orientation, panorama 360°). Redescendre jusqu’au point 2 par le même chemin.
Prendre la route à gauche. Au carrefour, descendre la route à droite, toujours tout droit. Au carrefour suivant, continuer en face sur le Chemin de Largeleix. Au cimetière, continuer à gauche pour entrer dans Yronde. Au carrefour prendre la rue de l’Horloge à gauche. Longer l’église et prendre le chemin des Vias. Emprunter le chemin à gauche (autre PR jaune à droite) pour aller jusqu’à l’intersection (croix).

Step 3 : Aller en face en ignorant les chemins de droite et de gauche, puis progresser toujours tout droit jusqu’à un croisement sur le plateau.

Step 4 : Bifurquer à gauche (relais hertzien) (panorama à 180° : Cézallier, Sancy, chaîne des Puys) et continuer jusqu’à la route. La suivre à droite sur 50m puis prendre le premier chemin à gauche. A la première intersection descendre à gauche. A la route, poursuivre en face sur la D136. Au croisement routier, prendre à droite la D760 sur 30m. Au niveau de la croix métallique, continuer sur le chemin à droite. A la première intersection, monter à gauche et continuer tout droit jusqu’à un croisement de 5 chemins.

Next step

Step 5 : Monter en face puis rester à gauche sur un chemin herbeux. A une croix, aller tout droit (vue sur Montpeyroux). A l’entrée du village de Parent, au niveau d’une fontaine, descendre à gauche. A la fontaine suivante, prendre la direction du VVF, sur la gauche pour revenir au point de départ.

For your own safety, always take a bottle of water, a hat, warm clothing and footwear suitable for walking.
Depending on weather conditions, certain itineraries are not recommended in bad weather (fog) or are not practicable, or even forbidden, during the winter season.
Some sites are fragile, so stay on the marked trails. Avoid picking wild flowers and disturbing wildlife. Pick up your garbage.
Animals are not allowed on some routes.

South of Clermont on the A75, exit 7. At Coudes, head for Parent on the RD 229. Parking lot on the right above the vacation village.
