Route description

This tour takes in the fortified church of Saint-Blaise (18th-century ironwork and 15th-century frescoes), the unfinished church of Prulhière, a viewpoint over the Miodet valley and the old lead mines of Chabanettes (a mountain of white sand).

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step

Step 1 : From the church square in Auzelles. Go down to the left of the church, then take the first path on the right after the bridge. After the last house in Auzelles, turn onto a track that leads to the Pradier cross.

Step 2 : In the village, turn left. Follow the D 996 for 400 m, then turn right onto a path between low walls. At the crossroads, go straight on to the road. Cross the D 996 and continue straight ahead. At the first crossroads, go straight on through the woods to the D112 E. Turn left for approx. 250 m, then take the left-hand path to La Frissonnette.

Step 3 : At the road, turn right. At the end of the wood, turn left onto a track that descends to the D112 E. Follow this road for 200 m. In front of Le Mahut, turn left onto a tarmac road to Les Boissières. Turn right at the first crossroads, follow the tarmac for 800 m, then left on a grassy path to La Pruhlière. In the middle of the village, pass the cross and descend under the houses. Take the path on the right. At the exit, keep right for 100 m. At the bend, fork left and follow the valley ledge.

Step 4 : Go up on the left towards Le Besset-bas. Leave the left-hand track and continue along the path opposite. Reach the tarmac and follow it to the right for 100 m. Turn right onto a track that descends into the Miodet valley. Opposite the stream, take the left-hand path up to the hamlet of Chabanettes.

Next step

Step 5 : At the end of the hamlet, turn right to reach the Chabanettes inn. At the crossroads, turn left for 100 m. After the first house, follow the path to the right above the Miodet. At the wooden bridge, follow the right-hand road up to the village for 100 m, then turn left at the first track to reach the church.

Additional information

For your own safety, always take a bottle of water, a hat, warm clothing and footwear suitable for walking.
Depending on weather conditions, certain itineraries are not recommended in bad weather (fog) or are not practicable, or even forbidden, during the winter season.
Some sites are fragile, so stay on the marked trails. Avoid picking wild flowers and disturbing wildlife. Pick up your garbage.
Animals are not allowed on some routes.

Access

From Cunlhat, take the D 225 towards the village of L’Alleyras. At the village, follow the D 996 towards Issoire. After 4 km, turn left onto the D 112 to enter the village of Auzelles.
