Route description

Discover the surroundings of Marat, a peaceful little village nestled in the foothills of the Monts du Forez. You’ll walk alongside majestic trees and wander along the lovely undergrowth paths that make Marat and its Rucheix communal forest so beautiful.

Step 1 : Du parking de la zone humide, partir à gauche sur la route montant jusqu’à Chantegrelle et virer à gauche sur un chemin carrossable. A la route, prendre à droite sur 250 m, puis tourner à gauche sur un chemin descendant. Au carrefour virer à droite et conserver ce chemin principal pour descendre jusqu’au ruisseau de « La Gérize »

Step 2 : Juste avant le ruisseau, bifurquer à droite, monter un chemin pentu pour rejoindre le charmant hameau de la Sauvedie. Traverser le petit village de la Sauvedie. Juste à la sortie du village, prendre une piste forestière sur la gauche. Longer une maison sur votre gauche et conserver cette piste pour entrer dans la forêt communale du Rucheix.

Step 3 : Laisser un premier chemin qui monte à droite et prendre le second 250 m plus loin. Monter sur ce chemin puis arriver à la piste forestière et continuer sur la droite. Au carrefour, bifurquer à droite sur le chemin descendant. A la patte d’oie, virer à gauche, longer la ferme en pisé. Ce chemin vous conduira au village de Fougère.

Step 4 : Tourner à gauche sur une route goudronnée, puis prendre à droite juste avant le hameau Le Bouchet. Passer entre les maisons et continuer toujours sur la droite, la route se transforme en chemin. Arriver à la route, traverser pour prendre la petite route en face (vue sur Pierre-sur-Haute). Au carrefour, continuer sur la droite, puis au prochain virage continuer tout droit sur un chemin descendant. Ce dernier ressort sur la route quelques mètres avant le cimetière. Descendre à droite, puis à gauche, pour traverser la zone humide et retrouver le point de départ.

Additional information

For your own safety, always take a bottle of water, a hat, warm clothing and footwear suitable for walking.
Depending on weather conditions, certain itineraries are not recommended in bad weather (fog) or are not practicable, or even forbidden, during the winter season.
Some sites are fragile, so stay on the marked trails. Avoid picking wild flowers and disturbing wildlife. Pick up your garbage.
Animals are not allowed on some routes.

Access

From Olliergues, take the D906 towards Ambert. After 4km, turn onto the D40 towards Marat, arrive in the village and park just past the church.
