This tour offers panoramic views of the Forez mountains, Thiers, the Dore valley, the Chaîne des Puys, the Sancy, Mauzun castle and the surrounding villages.
Step 1 : Go downhill on the road (D89) for 600 m towards Sauxillanges. At the fork, continue left (D144) for 200 m. At the transformer, turn left and drive past the farm (PV1 : panorama from the Sancy to the Chaîne des Puys). At the entrance to the quarry, go down the track and then right up to the hamlet of Chabanol.
Step 2 : Keep left, then go uphill, following a difficult descent through the forest. Cross two streams, climb towards the houses and cross the village of Chabreyras on the main street. At the exit, turn right to reach the road (D144). Turn right, then left towards Les Noalhats. Drive through the hamlet to a farm shed.
Step 3 : Take the dirt track on the left. At the end of the wood, turn right and, at the road, go straight on (PV2 : Small villages and hills of the Livradois). At La Lyrisse, turn right down the road and take the first path on the right. At the crossroads, fork right again, go through the woods up to a road, cross it and take the path opposite to another road (D89). Cross it, go straight ahead and enter the wood. At the end of the grassy lane, turn left, then immediately right. At the end of the wood (PV3 : view of Saint-Etienne-sur-Usson and the Sancy massif), continue to a road ; follow it to the left, then to the right as far as the century-old Gilleran lime tree.
Step 4 : Go around the lime tree to the left and, after 30 m, go down the grassy path, cross the stream and climb up. Take the left-hand road and, 100 m before the Château de La Forie, turn right onto a small tarmac road. At the next houses in Genestine, turn right, then right again to return to the starting point.
