Route description

A signposted path along the Durolle, where generations of grinders and representatives of the cutlery guild worked, has become a Mecca for industrial museology.

Trail highlights

– The Rouets valley and its mills.
– Nearby : Thiers and its cutlers, the cutlery museum, Le creux de l’Enfer.

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step

Step 1 : Du bâtiment d’accueil, descendre à gauche vers les rouets n°1 à 10. Au croisement, continuer à descendre sur la gauche pour rejoindre la Durolle et les rouets n°1, 2 et 3. Poursuivre le chemin le long de la rivière, vers les rouets n°4 à 10. Passer sur la passerelle à gauche des rouets de Chez Montagnac et de la Broche.

Step 2 : Chez l’Ane, ne pas monter les escaliers, mais prolonger le long de la Durolle. Passer ensuite devant les rouets de Chez le Rouge, Chez Picot et Chez Pianti.

Step 3 : Au niveau du rouet de Chez Dumas-Miolho, suivre le chemin qui monte. Au croisement, continuer à monter sur la gauche et poursuivre tout droit pour regagner le point de départ fin du circuit des Rouets Fourniot – 20 mn.

Step 4 : De retour au bâtiment d’accueil, possibilité de prolonger la balade en parcourant en aller-retour 40 mn le tronçon indiqué “vers rouets n°11 à 18” circuit des rouets de la colline des Boules.

Additional information

For your own safety, always take a bottle of water, a hat, warm clothing and footwear suitable for walking.
Depending on weather conditions, certain itineraries are not recommended in bad weather (fog) or are not practicable, or even forbidden, during the winter season.
Some sites are fragile, so stay on the marked trails. Avoid picking wild flowers and disturbing wildlife. Pick up your garbage.
Animals are not allowed on some routes.

Access

From Thiers, follow the D2089 towards Chabreloche. In Château-Gaillard, turn right towards the Vallée des Rouets.
