Route description

A pretty, fairly shady circuit offering superb views of the Monts Dore, Monts des Dômes, Livradois and Butte d’Usson.

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step

Step 1 : Follow the D996 towards Issoire. After the bridge, turn left. At the D7d, go left for 20 m and fork right between the walls. Cross the road, go straight ahead and then left. Take the right-hand path along the fence and turn left at the top of the hill. At Chaumat, turn right and go straight on ; ignore the track on the right (PV1 : panoramic view). Take the first track on the left, then turn right at the road. Go downhill, cross the stream, turn left and continue to the D996.

Step 2 : Go straight ahead into the meadow along the fence, then follow a path into the Bord woods. Follow the main path to the right, ignoring the adjacent paths. At the intersection, turn left (PV2 : butte d’Usson) and, at the next intersection, keep right until you reach the D263.

Step 3 : Go straight on towards Planissard for 100 m, then turn right before the hangar (PV3 : Butte d’Usson). At the intersection, turn left, then ignore the right-hand path. After a bend to the left, take a grassy path to the right for 150 m, leading to Planissard.

Step 4 : At the road, take the track opposite to the D263 (Brulecul hamlet). Turn left, then right, following the road (PV4 : view of Monts Dore et Dômes). At the next intersection, head for Péchaud. Follow a track downhill to the D996. Turn left before entering Sugères, then right after the footbridge, passing Lacot and rejoining the D7d. Turn right and return to the start by the same route you took on the outward journey.
