Route description

A trail of Scandinavian nature and Brittany’s mystical heritage : paths lined with dry-stone walls, moorland, deciduous forests, beautiful panoramas of the Monts Dore and the Etang de Roudeix. The furniture at Cros is interesting.

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step

Step 1 : Du panneau de départ, traverser la route et monter le chemin en face du calvaire. Rejoindre un chemin goudronné. Continuer tout droit. À la première fourche après les maisons, rester à droite et continuer jusqu’à l’entrée du bois.

Step 2 : Bifurquer à gauche, puis à la fourche suivante monter à droite. Rester sur le chemin principal sous des frondaisons. Descendre ensuite jusqu’à une intersection à découvert.

Step 3 : Partir à droite. Au premier chemin transversal, monter à gauche. Au croisement, continuer à droite et longer une zone de tourbières (Tourbière de Lacoste – table d’informations – vue sur les monts du Cantal). Avant une maison, rejoindre un chemin goudronné (vue sur le Sancy).

Step 4 : Le suivre à droite. À la D 613, continuer à droite. Laisser une route à gauche et à 300 m, monter dans le premier chemin à gauche dans la forêt. À la fourche, prendre à droite. Rester sur ce chemin en ignorant ceux de part et d’autre. À la route, monter à droite pour revenir au point de départ.

Additional information

For your own safety, always take a bottle of water, a hat, warm clothing and footwear suitable for walking.
Depending on weather conditions, certain itineraries are not recommended in bad weather (fog) or are not practicable, or even forbidden, during the winter season.
Some sites are fragile, so stay on the marked trails. Avoid picking wild flowers and disturbing wildlife. Pick up your garbage.
Animals are not allowed on some routes.

Access

At La Tour-d’Auvergne, 70 km south-west of Clermont-Ferrand, take the D47. Pass through Bagnols. At the entrance to Cros, turn left onto the D613 towards Saint-Donat for 400m. Parking lot on the right, at the foot of the calvary.
