Route description

A trail of Scandinavian nature and Brittany’s mystical heritage : paths lined with dry-stone walls, moorland, deciduous forests, beautiful panoramas of the Monts Dore and the Etang de Roudeix. The furniture at Cros is interesting.

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step

Step 1 : From the start sign, cross the road and climb the path opposite the calvary. Join a tarmac track. Continue straight ahead. At the first fork after the houses, keep right and continue to the entrance to the wood.

Step 2 : Turn left, then right at the next fork. Stay on the main path under the foliage. Then descend to an open intersection.

Step 3 : Turn right. At the first crossroads, turn left. At the crossroads, continue right along an area of peat bogs (Tourbière de Lacoste – information table – view of the Monts du Cantal). Before a house, join a tarmac road (view of the Sancy).

Step 4 : Follow it to the right. At the D 613, keep right. After 300 m, take the first left into the forest. At the fork, turn right. Stay on this path, ignoring those on either side. At the road, turn right to return to the starting point.

Additional information

For your own safety, always take a bottle of water, a hat, warm clothing and footwear suitable for walking.
Depending on weather conditions, certain itineraries are not recommended in bad weather (fog) or are not practicable, or even forbidden, during the winter season.
Some sites are fragile, so stay on the marked trails. Avoid picking wild flowers and disturbing wildlife. Pick up your garbage.
Animals are not allowed on some routes.

Access

At La Tour-d’Auvergne, 70 km south-west of Clermont-Ferrand, take the D47. Pass through Bagnols. At the entrance to Cros, turn left onto the D613 towards Saint-Donat for 400m. Parking lot on the right, at the foot of the calvary.
