Route description
A beautiful hike in the gorges of Courgoul (couze) via a pretty path that leads to an old bridge and then to Auzollette : fountain, carved stone cross, bread oven…. Courgoul is appreciated for its pailhats (terraced gardens).

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step
Step 1 : Du panneau de départ, prendre le chemin parallèle à la route (vue sur les “Pailhats”, terrasses soutenues par des murets en pierres sèches), passer le pont et monter à droite. 100m plus loin prendre à droite un large chemin très pentu. En haut de la côte, ignorer le chemin de gauche, continuer en face et descendre en face jusqu’à un chemin en rétrograde situé à mi-pente.
Step 2 : Le prendre à gauche et monter en lacets raides pour arriver sur le plateau où le chemin se poursuit entre les prairies jusqu’à un carrefour en T.
Step 3 : Prendre à gauche poursuivre sur environ 500 m (point de vue sur le Cézallier, le massif du Sancy, la chaîne des Puys, les gorges de Courgoul, la chapelle de Brionnet). Ignorer le chemin de gauche, continuer à descendre tout droit. Au croisement suivant poursuivre en face jusqu’à l’intersection à l’entrée du village d’Auzolette.
Step 4 : Traverser Auzolette par la rue principale (croix, four à pain). À la sortie du hameau, tourner à gauche et 100 m plus loin, encore à gauche. Descendre ensuite par un chemin en lacets (vue sur le pic et la chapelle de Brionnet), laisser une piste à droite, continuer à descendre tout droit pour rejoindre la vallée de la Couze et, en prenant à gauche, rejoindre le point de départ.

Additional information
For your own safety, always take a bottle of water, a hat, warm clothing and footwear suitable for walking.
Depending on weather conditions, certain itineraries are not recommended in bad weather (fog) or are not practicable, or even forbidden, during the winter season.
Some sites are fragile, so stay on the marked trails. Avoid picking wild flowers and disturbing wildlife. Pick up your garbage.
Animals are not allowed on some routes.
Dogs allowed Dogs must be kept on a leash due to the presence of herds.

Access
From Champeix, take the D28. Turn right at Saint-Floret, then right at Saurier. Take the D26 to Courgoul. Park at the village entrance, near the start sign.
