Route description

From Pionsat and its green setting, the route winds through woods, hedgerows and pastures. The Vialle pond and the Ganne valley, which add an aquatic note to the walk, can be found between the undulations of the landscape.

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step :

Étape 1 : From the signpost on the lower side of the D227 in front of the old railway station, follow Virlet. Turn right towards “Les Bizets”; in the hamlet, keep left. At the crossroads, turn left to the junction of four roads.

Étape 2 : Go straight ahead towards the antenna tower. At the intersection, turn left and continue to the road. Follow it to the right, then leave it in the direction of “Bunges”. Ignore the adjacent paths, and at the crossroads go straight ahead towards the cross. At the crossroads, continue straight ahead. At the Vialle pond, turn left to reach the D79.

Étape 3 : Go left (Monastère de Bellaigues on right) for 750 m, then turn left towards “Le Prat de Soudeix”. Ignore the paths on your left, and at the intersection, turn left onto the D103. At the sign for “Le Prat”, turn right. At the intersection, take the grassy path on the left. At the top of the hill, leave the track on your left and continue as far as the intersection.

Étape 4 : Climb to the left, staying on the main path. At the road junction, turn left, cross the D103, and follow the track opposite. At the top of the hill (view of the Combrailles countryside), keep left and at the power line, take the path on the left which rejoins point 1. Return to the starting point by the same route as the outward journey.
