Route description

We arrive at “Paradis”, the highest point in Royat-Chamalières, to admire the Royat spa from above and Clermont-Ferrand in the background. The Limagne fault runs through here, marking the boundary between the volcanoes and Limagne.

Trail highlights

You can easily extend your walk in the direction of Fontanas, Le Cheix and Villars to reach the “Hauts de Chamalières” district.

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step

Step 1 : From the start sign (view of Clermont-Ferrand), continue along the Chemin des Crêtes to the crossroads after the relay antenna.

Step 2 : Continue uphill (view of Royat and puy de Gravenoire), staying on the main path overlooking the Royat valley. As you leave the wooded area (view of puy de Dôme and Pariou), stay on the left-hand side of the path until you reach the intersection with the PR puy de Montrodeix.

Step 3 : Turn right and continue straight ahead until you reach the first houses in the hamlet of Villars. Turn right, then left at the fork, continuing on the plateau then down through the undergrowth to a T-junction. Turn right and continue to the next fork.

Step 4 : Take the long right-hand descent through the woods back to point 1, ignoring all the side paths. Go left downhill to the starting point.
