Guidebook with maps/step-by-step

Step 1 : From the start sign on the median alongside the church, head for the D80, cross it and continue straight ahead to a T-junction. Turn left for 1,500 m to a crossroads near a large hangar.

Step 2 : Turn left alongside the hangar and climb up the eastern flank of the puy du Faux (hillock topped by a pylon, panoramic view of the Sancy massif, the puys chain and the Combrailles). Descend to a T-junction, take a path to the right, then left 30 m further on. After 100 m, pick up a tarmac track and follow it to a large crossroads in the hamlet of Les Vialles.

Step 3 : Take the road to the right for 100 m, then turn left. At the intersection, go straight on for 30 m and take a dirt track on the left. Turn right at the fork. At the next crossroads, go straight ahead and descend through undergrowth to the stream. Cross the bridge and head uphill on a narrow track, ignoring sloping tracks to the left and a downhill path to the right. After a sharp bend, climb up onto the plateau to reach the village of St-Fargeot and the D80 road.

Step 4 : Cross the road and follow the track opposite (undergrowth) for 1 km, ignoring the side paths. At the crossroads before the slope, turn left. At the fork, continue left, ignoring the tracks on the right. At the T-junction, turn right and continue on a wide track ; ignore the 2 paths on the right. At the next T-junction, turn right. Turn right again at the fork in the road. On the asphalt road, pass between two buildings, then keep left. Turn right after the brick building and return to the start.
