Guidebook with maps/step-by-step

Step 1 : From the esplanade, opposite the sign, go left. Go straight ahead to a crow’s-foot at the foot of Puy de Monténard.

Step 2 : Go left up into the woods and continue straight on (leaving the paths on either side) until you reach the third path on the left.

Step 3 : Take this, go straight on to a crossroads ; take the right-hand path, which then bends sharply to the left. At the next crossroads, continue straight ahead until you reach a crow’s-foot.

Step 4 : Climb to the right and back to the summit of Puy de Monténard, with views of Saulzet le Froid, the Pessade plateau, the Sancy range and the Monne valley. Back at point 3, turn right to the T-junction. Take the wide track on the left and go down to the fence at the end of the wood.

Next step

Step 5 : Follow the track to the left, along the fence, and at the first crossroads, turn left to reach the starting point (view of the Monne valley, the Chay plateau, and the Livradois-Forez in the distance).
