Route description

The sunny hillsides of Saint-Sandoux are the kingdom of the Auvergne apple (33 varieties) and of nature : vineyards, wheat fields, dry grasslands, a rich variety of flora and fauna. From the puy Saint-Sandoux (paragliding site), a surprising mosaic of views.

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step

Step 1 : Monter sur 60 m en direction de la mairie puis prendre la rue des Barquets. À l’entrée de la place du Théron (croix), tourner à droite. À 150 m prendre à gauche le chemin de la Font Coide. Poursuivre tout droit jusqu’à la route (vues sur le puy de Dôme et l’abbaye de Randol).

Step 2 : L’emprunter à gauche. À 250 m, monter le chemin à gauche. Au niveau du cimetière, continuer à gauche ; (au sommet de la côte, vue sur le Sancy). Au croisement, descendre à droite et prendre le premier chemin à gauche jusqu’à un croisement.

Step 3 : Monter à gauche. Au croisement descendre à droite et tourner à gauche au carrefour. Au croisement suivant, prendre à droite jusqu’à une intersection avec une route.

Step 4 : La suivre à gauche jusqu’à l’entrée du hameau de Pressat ; monter le chemin herbeux à gauche. Peu avant le sommet de la côte, prendre une sente à droite. Au croisement continuer la sente et longer le plateau jusqu’à la croix latine qui domine Saint-Sandoux (panorama, table d’orientation).

Next step

Step 5 : Descendre la route sur 650 m et à un replat prendre le sentier à droite. Au carrefour, à la sortie du bois, continuer tout droit, emprunter la rue de la Moutardière, la place de la Mairie et rejoindre le point de départ.

Additional information

For your own safety, always take a bottle of water, a hat, warm clothing and footwear suitable for walking.
Depending on weather conditions, certain itineraries are not recommended in bad weather (fog) or are not practicable, or even forbidden, during the winter season.
Some sites are fragile, so stay on the marked trails. Avoid picking wild flowers and disturbing wildlife. Pick up your garbage.
Animals are not allowed on some routes.

Access

At Plauzat (south of Clermont) take the D791 to Saint-Sandoux. Parking lot at Place des Forts, near the church.
