Close to Clermont-Ferrand, this trail offers a real change of scenery and a breath of fresh air. Château d’Opme bears witness not only to the area’s medieval past, but also to the stay of Jean de Lattre de Tassigny (Marshal of France).
– Castle, church, cross, wash-house, fountain.
– Views of the Clermont area, the Chaîne des Puys, the Côtes de Clermont, the Puy de Gravenoire and the Puy de Montrognon.
– Puy Giroux with its panoramic viewpoint.
Étape 1 : Head up rue du maréchal De Lattre De Tassigny towards the château. Go around it via rue des Hautes. Just before the corner of the surrounding wall, turn right onto rue du Chemin des Côtes. Continue along the carriageway until you reach a road.
Étape 2 : Follow it to the left. Drive alongside the medical center and stay on the main road. After passing Pradet and a reservoir, continue along the path for 350 m. Climb to the right towards Puy Giroux. At the edge of the pine forest (viewpoint), take the left-hand path, and 250 m further on, fork right. At the T-junction, go left until you reach a fork.
Étape 3 : Climb the path on the right to reach the summit of Puy Giroux (panoramic viewpoint, particularly of the inverted relief of Montagne de la Serre). Take the same route back down to point 2 and continue right towards Opme until you reach the road (point 1). Take the same route to the parking lot as you did on the outward journey.
From 01/01 to 31/12.
Subject to favorable weather.
