Route description
From Brugeron, via pretty cobbled paths with low granite walls, you reach the summit of Puy Gros, discovering the jasseries of the vast Hauts de Chaume plateau of the Livradois-Forez region. The view is splendid from the Sainte-Anne cross.

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step
Step 1 : From Le Brugeron church, follow the road to the right, then turn left 50 m before the D102. Just before the D37, take the path that climbs to the right as far as the village of Bien. Drive through the hamlet, keeping to the right of the road. At the end of the hamlet, fork right at the crow’s-foot. At the forest track, take the right-hand path as far as the crow’s-foot.
Step 2 : Take the left-hand hairpin path up to the D102, which you take on the left. Take the first left into the woods. Continue along the main path to the clearing at the Pirou cross. Take the forest track on the left for 1.5 km. As you go downhill, take the left-hand path down into the woods. Cross the “Gros Sapet” stream before climbing up to the village of Les Besses (view of the Sancy massif and the Chaîne des Puys).
Step 3 : Take the path on the right, pass the buron de chez Ferré and continue on the main path until you reach a crossroads with several paths. Then take the track opposite. Near the granite milestone, turn right into the park and take the path up to Puy-Gros opposite (view of the Chaîne des Puys, the Sancy massif, the Forez and Livradois mountains). Follow the path down the other side until you reach the forest track on the left.
Step 4 : At a jasserie, take the right-hand path down to another forest track. Keep left on this track until you reach the D102. Take the road to the right, pass the cross-country ski center and take the first carriageway to the left. Then fork right and stay on this path until you reach the village of Les Echelettes.
Next step
Step 5 : At the D102, turn left for 20 m before taking the first asphalt road on the right. The road becomes a footpath and rejoins the D102 at the village of l’Arbre. Take the D102 opposite. At the crow’s-foot with another asphalt road, take the road opposite. Pass some reservoirs and continue down to Le Brugeron, back to the start parking lot.

Additional information
For your own safety, always take a bottle of water, a hat, warm clothing and footwear suitable for walking.
Depending on weather conditions, certain itineraries are not recommended in bad weather (fog) or are not practicable, or even forbidden, during the winter season.
Some sites are fragile, so stay on the marked trails. Avoid picking wild flowers and disturbing wildlife. Pick up your garbage.
Animals are not allowed on some routes.
Dogs allowed Dogs must be kept on a leash due to the presence of herds.

Access
From Olliergues, take the D37 for 13 km towards Le Brugeron. The start is near the church in Le Brugeron.
