Marking Butterfly
A walk around a volcanic reservoir that is ideal for canoeing, sailing, fishing and swimming. A variant climbs the Tartaret volcano, from where you can admire the Dent du Marais volcanic cliffs and the Sancy massif.

– La couze Chambon.
Step 1 : À la passerelle, face au lac, emprunter le chemin de droite en laissant le lac à main gauche jusqu’à la route (vue sur la Dent du Marais).
Step 2 : Tourner à gauche, longer un parapet que l’on suit jusqu’à la « plage Chambon-sur-Lac » et le parking.
Step 3 : Contourner le parking par la gauche, longer le camping en le laissant à droite (vue sur le massif du Sancy et la vallée de Chaudefour) poursuivre jusqu’au premier croisement. Prendre à gauche en passant sur les pontons. Traverser la couze de Chaudefour (vue sur le château de Murol et le Tartaret) et poursuivre jusqu’à un croisement en T.
Step 4 : Prendre à gauche le chemin qui longe le lac jusqu’à la “plage Murol” que l’on traverse sur une voie verte. Rejoindre le parking en empruntant le pont qui enjambe la couze Chambon.

Access
From Clermont-Ferrand, take the D2089 towards Tulle / Bordeaux.
At the Col de la Ventouse, turn left towards Murol on the D213, then right on the D5 to the Murol roundabout. Take the D996 towards Lac Chambon as far as the traffic circle. Turn left, direction “Plage Est”.
