Route description

This family hike follows the rows of apple trees in the Mirabel valley, then the labyrinthine streets of Marsat. Also worth seeing are the fountains, the castle towers, the Viergenoire and the ruins of the women’s convent, built almost 1,400 years ago…

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step

Step 1 : Du panneau de départ, sur le parking, longer le terrain de sport et franchir la grille. Emprunter en face le chemin des Amandiers. À l’intersection en T, tourner à gauche. Dépasser la croix en pierre, s’engager à droite dans la voie piétonne. À l’intersection en T, prendre la route à droite. À 20 m, virer à gauche jusqu’à la passerelle sur le ruisseau.

Step 2 : Progresser sur le chemin en face, ignorer un chemin à gauche. À la fourche dans le bois, se maintenir à gauche. Au croisement de quatre chemins, redescendre par celui de gauche (vue sur Marsat) jusqu’à une intersection en T.

Step 3 : Partir à droite. Poursuivre tout droit jusqu’aux premières maisons (meule d’un ancien moulin). Remonter la route de Clermont par la gauche. Prendre la rue de l’Église à gauche (église et croix du calvaire). Contourner l’église par la gauche jusqu’à la place cloître.

Step 4 : Traverser la Grand-Rue. Aller en face rue de la Treille puis rue de la Grande Fontaine (lavoir, fontaine et tour médiévale). Place du Marronnier, à droite, s’engager dans la rue du Marronnier par un étroit passage à gauche, puis dans la rue à droite. Virer à gauche allée des Écoles. Rejoindre le parking par le parc à l’arrière de la mairie.

Additional information

For your own safety, always take a bottle of water, a hat, warm clothing and footwear suitable for walking.
Depending on weather conditions, certain itineraries are not recommended in bad weather (fog) or are not practicable, or even forbidden, during the winter season.
Some sites are fragile, so stay on the marked trails. Avoid picking wild flowers and disturbing wildlife. Pick up your garbage.
Animals are not allowed on some routes.

Access

On leaving Riom to the south-west, take the D83 for 3 km to Marsat. Parking behind the town hall.
