Route description
This family hike follows the rows of apple trees in the Mirabel valley, then the labyrinthine streets of Marsat. Also worth seeing are the fountains, the castle towers, the Viergenoire and the ruins of the women’s convent, built almost 1,400 years ago…

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step
Step 1 : From the start sign in the parking lot, walk along the sports field and through the gate. Go straight ahead on chemin des Amandiers. At the T-junction, turn left. Pass the stone cross and turn right into the pedestrian walkway. At the T-junction, turn right onto the road. After 20 m, turn left as far as the footbridge over the stream.
Step 2 : Continue along the track opposite, ignoring a path on the left. Keep left at the fork in the woods. At the junction of four paths, go down the left-hand path (with a view of Marsat) to a T-junction.
Step 3 : Turn right. Continue straight ahead to the first houses (old millstone). Turn left up the Route de Clermont. Turn left into rue de l’Église (church and calvary cross). Turn left around the church to reach the cloister square.
Step 4 : Cross the Grand-Rue. Opposite, rue de la Treille, then rue de la Grande Fontaine (wash-house, fountain and medieval tower). At Place du Marronnier, turn right into Rue du Marronnier through a narrow passage on the left, then right into the street. Turn left into allée des Écoles. Reach the parking lot behind the town hall.

Additional information
For your own safety, always take a bottle of water, a hat, warm clothing and footwear suitable for walking.
Depending on weather conditions, certain itineraries are not recommended in bad weather (fog) or are not practicable, or even forbidden, during the winter season.
Some sites are fragile, so stay on the marked trails. Avoid picking wild flowers and disturbing wildlife. Pick up your garbage.
Animals are not allowed on some routes.

Access
On leaving Riom to the south-west, take the D83 for 3 km to Marsat. Parking behind the town hall.
