This is a pleasant walk starting from Ayat-sur-Sioule, the birthplace of the famous Bonapartist general Desaix, born in 1768. The path leads down to the banks of the Sioule, skirting this wild and unspoilt river.
– The Sioule.
– View of the Fayolle mill.
Step 1 : With your back to the start sign, take the cul-de-sac, keep to the left, pass between the buildings and go straight ahead. Follow the path down to a small road.
Step 2 : Turn right up to a crossroads, go left for 10 m and then fork right onto a path. Reach a road, cross it and continue straight ahead. Follow the path down through the woods to a road. Follow it to the left, ignoring the road up to Ponchaigne, and continue to the right on the tarmac path along the Sioule (Moulin de Fayolle) as far as the intersection in a place called Gaby.
Step 3 : Go straight ahead along the track to a fork, then turn right and follow the Sioule to the next fork. Climb to the left, staying on the main track and ignoring the paths on the right. Continue straight ahead on a small road for 1.5 km to an intersection with 2 side paths.
Step 4 : Take the one on the right. At the next intersection, turn left up to a village, then follow the road to the left. At the next two intersections, turn right and return to the starting point.
