This is a pleasant walk starting from Ayat-sur-Sioule, the birthplace of the famous Bonapartist general Desaix, born in 1768. The path leads down to the banks of the Sioule, skirting this wild and unspoilt river.
– The Sioule.
– View of the Fayolle mill.
Étape 1 : With your back to the start sign, take the cul-de-sac, keep to the left, pass between the buildings and go straight ahead. Follow the path down to a small road.
Étape 2 : Turn right at the crossroads, go left for 10 metres and then fork right onto a path. Reach a road, cross it and continue straight ahead. Take the path down through the woods to a road. Follow it to the left, ignoring the road leading up to Ponchaigne, and turn right along the tarmac track alongside the Sioule (Moulin de Fayolle) as far as the crossroads in a place called Gaby.
Étape 3 : Go straight ahead on the track until you reach a fork, turn right and walk along the Sioule until you reach the next fork. Go up to the left and stay on the main track, ignoring the paths on the right. Continue straight ahead on a small road for 1.5 km until you come to an intersection with 2 side tracks.
