Route description

This trail is typical of the Combrailles region, with the Sioule River forming the backdrop to the gorges and valleys. The climb up to Château-Rocher is a wonderful reward for the hiker, who enjoys a feeling of elevation above this bucolic landscape.

Trail highlights

– The “miraculous spring”.
– The Château Rocher.
– View of the Sioule valley.

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step :

Étape 1 : Take the road towards the Menat bridge and immediately turn left at the Moulin des Iles. Walk past the “miraculous spring” and continue along the track, keeping to the left. Go up to the road and follow it to the left for 100 m until you reach the first track on the left leading down to Les Garachons, Mathias’ home.

Étape 2 : Take this path to join the Sioule, cross a hamlet and follow the riverbank to Les Garachons (old mill). Go right, climb for 500 m and at a hairpin bend, go left down the track to the entrance to a property (Chez Barthomier).

Étape 3 : Turn right onto the track alongside the river and continue along an overhanging path. Wind your way back down to the river bank and climb straight up to the road. Cross the road and continue uphill through the woods to the ruins of Château-Rocher.

Étape 4 : Return along the access path to the château and, on the right, climb the steps to the car park (view of the château and the Sioule valley). Continue as far as the Blot Rocher houses (houses with redentant gables) and turn right. Join a track and go straight on to the road. Turn right, go around Saint-Rémy-de-Blot and continue as far as the entrance to Les Gouyards. Turn right and drive through a hamlet, keeping to the right. At the exit, turn left onto the dirt track and follow it down to the road. Turn left for 100 m and then right towards Lisseuil and its church.
