Route description

A family walk that takes you from the priory of Chaumont-le-Bourg, with its moats still filled with water, to the pretty village of Masselèbre (adobe buildings) and its curious bridge under which the Dore no longer flows, having long since changed its bed.

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step

Step 1 : De l’église, se diriger vers la chapelle puis prendre la route en face de celle-ci direction Masselèbre. Suivre cette petite route pendant 300 m environ.

Step 2 : Au niveau de la croix en bois, tourner à gauche et suivre le chemin de terre. 150 m plus loin, à la patte d’oie, tourner à droite pour longer le ruisseau du Saut. Garder toujours ce même chemin jusqu’à un croisement. Tourner à droite et poursuivre sur le chemin principal, jusqu’au hameau de Masselèbre et au pont médiéval (table de lecture).

Step 3 : Revenir sur ses pas pour passer devant le bâtiment agricole et tourner tout de suite à gauche en quittant le chemin principal. Au croisement tourner à gauche. À la route munie d’une croix, continuer en face sur le chemin de terre (vue sur les monts du Forez). À la croix, suivre la route à droite.

Step 4 : 250 m plus loin, tourner de nouveau à droite et suivre la route. Passer devant le bâtiment d’élevage et poursuivre jusqu’à la D 38. Suivre alors la petite route sur votre droite en ignorant la D 38. Longer la scierie et 250 m plus loin, au niveau de la croix en bois (point 1), tourner à gauche pour regagner le point de départ par le même itinéraire qu’à l’aller.

Additional information

For your own safety, always take a bottle of water, a hat, warm clothing and footwear suitable for walking.
Depending on weather conditions, certain itineraries are not recommended in bad weather (fog) or are not practicable, or even forbidden, during the winter season.
Some sites are fragile, so stay on the marked trails. Avoid picking wild flowers and disturbing wildlife. Pick up your garbage.
Animals are not allowed on some routes.

Access

From the village of Arlanc, take the D38 towards Beurrières. In the village, continue on the main road towards Chaumont-le-Bourg.
