Route description

A loop along the cool, shady Sioule, including the beautiful Montfermy waterfall, ideal for a family break, and the village’s Romanesque church, with its early 14th-century frescoes, well worth a visit.

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step :

Étape 1 : Cross the bridge over the Sioule. Turn left up the steps into the village. At the crossroads, turn right, go around the church to the left and down the road to the D418. Follow this road to the left for 500 m, overhanging the river, until you see the sign for “La Garde”.

Étape 2 : Turn left up the road. At the right-hand bend, take the left-hand path down to the stream, cross it and climb right to the summit (view of Montfermy church). Descend to the river and walk alongside it as far as the wooden footbridge.

Étape 3 : Cross the Sioule and climb to the bridge above the waterfall. Follow the path to the left and, at the crossroads, continue left to the starting point.

CAUTION – The path is uneven, with some tricky sections (large stones).

Additional information

For your own safety, always take a bottle of water, a hat, warm clothing and footwear suitable for walking.
Depending on the weather conditions, some routes are not recommended in bad weather (fog) or are not practicable, or even forbidden, during the winter season.
Some sites are fragile, so stay on the marked paths. Avoid picking wild flowers and disturbing wildlife. Pick up your rubbish.

Accès

Head towards Pontgibaud (D941). At the crossroads after the Pontgibaud roundabout, turn right towards Montfermy on the D418. Car park on the left before the bridge, at the entrance to Montfermy
