Route description

A loop along the cool, shady Sioule, including the beautiful Montfermy waterfall, ideal for a family break, and the village’s Romanesque church, with its early 14th-century frescoes, well worth a visit.

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step

Step 1 : Franchir le pont sur la Sioule. Monter à gauche les escaliers pour atteindre le village. À la croix, monter à droite, contourner l’église par la gauche et descendre la route jusqu’à la D418. L’emprunter à gauche sur 500 m, en surplomb de la rivière, jusqu’au panneau “la Garde”.

Step 2 : Monter la route à gauche. Au virage à droite descendre le sentier de gauche jusqu’au ruisseau, le traverser et monter à droite jusqu’au sommet (vue sur l’église de Montfermy). Descendre à la rivière et la longer jusqu’à la passerelle en bois.

Step 3 : Franchir la Sioule et monter sur le pont au dessus de la cascade. Poursuivre sur le chemin à gauche et, à la croix, continuer à gauche jusqu’au point de départ.

ATTENTION – Le chemin est accidenté avec des passages délicats (de gros cailloux) sur certaines portions de l’itinéraire.

Additional information

For your own safety, always take a bottle of water, a hat, warm clothing and footwear suitable for walking.
Depending on weather conditions, certain itineraries are not recommended in bad weather (fog) or are not practicable, or even forbidden, during the winter season.
Some sites are fragile, so stay on the marked trails. Avoid picking wild flowers and disturbing wildlife. Pick up your garbage.
Animals are not allowed on some routes.

Access

Head towards Pontgibaud (D941). At the crossroads after the Pontgibaud roundabout, turn right towards Montfermy on the D418. Car park on the left before the bridge, at the entrance to Montfermy
