Discover the basalt organs of the Essarts waterfall.This short, family-friendly walk through meadows and forests offers fine views of the Sancy massif.
Hidden in the undergrowth, the Essarts waterfall is first heard, then discovered amid lush vegetation. The water of the La Gagne river flows over basalt columns into a basin covered with rocks and stones, before continuing down the stream.

Step 1 : From Place de l’Eglise, go down Rue de la Mairie, which runs between the Maison du Tourisme and the Mairie, then straight ahead along the road.
Step 2 : After passing the first intersection at 400 m, turn right at the second intersection at 800 m, towards Le Mont.
Step 3 : Turn right just before entering the hamlet of Le Mont. Follow this road for 800 m.
Step 4 : Turn left to go back and forth to the Essarts waterfall.
Step 5 : Return to the main path and turn left. Keep to the right at the next intersection, 80 m further on. Continue for 700 m to the road.
Step 8 : Turn left and return along the same road to the village of Chastreix.
From 01/01 to 31/12/2026 daily.
Bring hiking boots, or even snowshoes in case of heavy snow.
Remember to wear 3 layers of clothing, as the trail runs through undergrowth.
Not suitable for baby carriages.
