A beautiful family hike with views of the Sancy, the Haute Dordogne valley and the Pic du Capucin. You’ll also pass through the remarkable Capucin forest, with a stop near the funicular railway.
This hike is sheltered from both sun and bad weather, as most of it is undergrowth.
You’ll pass under the Capucin funicular, France’s oldest electric funicular, which celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2023. Built in 1898 and listed as a Monument Historique, the Capucin funicular embodies all the charm of(…)
Step 1 : From the tourist office, join avenue René Cassin, before the Dordogne bridge, and continue straight on for 300 m.
Step 2 : Continue straight on towards the “aire de loisirs des Pradets”. Pass between the summer toboggan run and the skate park. Continue straight ahead over the bridge over the Dordogne.
Step 3 : Turn right and pass the equestrian center. Once on the Chemin des Montagnes, continue straight on for 900 m.
Step 4 : Turn right when you reach the Pontauzy road and continue for 800 m.
Step 5 : Turn right into the forest. 400 m further on, at the crow’s-foot, take the path down to the right. Follow the Chemin des Artistes to the end (approx. 3 km).
Step 6 : Once you’ve reached the D645, turn right and follow the road to the Mont-Dore tourist office.
From 01/01 to 31/12/2026 daily.
Bring snowshoes or hiking boots in case of heavy snow.
Remember to wear 3 layers of clothing, as some of the trail is undergrowth.
Not suitable for baby carriages.

Access
Parking close to Le Mont-Dore tourist office. This is located in the building of the sports and leisure complex (skating rink, bowling alley, conference hall), in the spa park in the town center.
