Route description

This is an easy walk suitable for families, along a pleasant forest trail. It leads to a picturesque peat bog and gives you the chance to explore Lake Gayme. There are information boards along the peat bog explaining the local environment.

After the Bois de Gayme heath, the Gayme peat bog comes into view, with the Fontaine Salée valley in the background. Peat bogs are acidic swamps where peat is formed. There are around fifteen in the commune of Picherande. Peat being a good material for heating, peat bogs were once(…)

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step

Step 1 : From the Lac de Gayme parking lot, take the path in front of you.
At the crossroads, turn right towards the peat bog. Continue straight ahead for 1.3 km until you reach the Gayme peat bog.

Step 2 : Take the track on your left and go straight on for 600 m.
At the crossroads with a track on your right, go straight on for 750 m.

Step 3 : Back at the first crow’s-foot, take the track on your right 30 m further on, heading for the Gayme woods. Follow the forest path to the lake.

Step 4 : Take the right-hand path alongside the lake, go around it and return to the starting parking lot.

Additional information

In winter, we recommend waterproof hiking boots and walking poles.
