Route description
Saint-Amant-Roche-Savine boasts a veritable forest conservatory, where you can discover different species such as spruce, beech and elm, not to mention magnificent views over the Dore valley and the Forez mountains.

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step
Step 1 : Place des Saint-Martin, opposite the college. Turn left up the road alongside the college. After 300 m, turn right onto a dirt track which continues through coniferous woods. Cross the road and take the path opposite, passing a fountain. Don’t cross the D37 ; go left up a track, then turn right.
Step 2 : Join the D39 (view of the Monts du Forez), cross it to take a tarmac track. Follow the asphalt road up to Roche-Savine. After crossing the hamlet, turn right on a stony track to the remains of the château (signposted alternative via the villages of Chanteloube and Montgheol). At the antenna, turn right down a path which continues straight ahead through undergrowth. Cross the D37 and join a path leading down through the woods.
Step 3 : In the hamlet of Losfournet, turn right onto a tarmac road. After 150 m, turn left on a stony track, passing Fleix and then La Barthe. Take the asphalt road to the right. At the first house in Barbaliche, turn left onto a track that climbs into the forest.
Step 4 : On the plateau, turn right at the Croix Chenue and continue through the woods on a downhill track (view of the Dore valley). Leave the path coming from the left and go down to the right.

Step 5 : At the road, walk a few metres towards Le Monial, go down to the iron cross and the oven on the first track on the left. 500 m further on, turn right on an asphalt track. At Le Buisson, continue straight ahead. Go down to a bridge, then up a track. Go straight on at the crossroads, cross the D996 and take the opposite street, going up towards the church.

Additional information
For your own safety, always take a bottle of water, a hat, warm clothing and footwear suitable for walking.
Depending on weather conditions, certain itineraries are not recommended in bad weather (fog) or are not practicable, or even forbidden, during the winter season.
Some sites are fragile, so stay on the marked trails. Avoid picking wild flowers and disturbing wildlife. Pick up your garbage.
Animals are not allowed on some routes.
