Route description

This walk from the village of Saint-Maignier winds its way through wide paths leading to the pastures and hedgerows of the Combrailles plateau. The views of the Combrailles are breathtaking.

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step :

Étape 1 : From the signpost near the war memorial (Romanesque church), head towards Pionsat. After 50 m, turn left onto the D525; go downhill and then uphill to the village of La Boële. At the stop sign, turn left onto a wide track. Go straight up to a crossroads.

Étape 2 : Turn right; continue straight on for 1 km until you reach a road (D517). Immediately turn left onto a track that descends, crosses a stream and then rises again. Continue, ignoring the paths on the right, until you reach a T-junction.

Étape 3 : Go downhill to the left and turn right at the next fork. Ignore the side paths. Reach signpost 1. Turn right and reach a road. Immediately turn left down a wide track (with views of the village and surrounding area). At the road, turn left to reach Saint-Maigner.

Additional information

For your own safety, always take a bottle of water, a hat, warm clothing and footwear suitable for walking.
Depending on the weather conditions, some routes are not recommended in bad weather (fog) or are not practicable, or even forbidden, during the winter season.
Some sites are fragile, so stay on the marked paths. Avoid picking wild flowers and disturbing wildlife. Pick up your rubbish.
Animals are not allowed on some roads

Accès

From Pontaumur, go to Saint-Gervais-d’Auvergne and then to Pionsat. Take the D13 to Saint-Maigner. Car park on the Place de l’Église.
