Route description

In just a few kilometers, this walk concentrates all the landscapes and atmospheres offered by this region : beech forests of light and shade, pretty bridge, waterfall, mountain pastures, village of La Graille, sculpted fountain, stone tubs, crosses. Beautiful views of the Sancy massif.

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step

Step 1 : Opposite the start sign, turn left. At the stream crossing, turn right. Follow the pastures and climb through the beech forest to the waterfall overhang (possibility of descending to the bottom of the waterfall : AR 10 mn).

Step 2 : Continue uphill and, as you approach the entrance to a pasture, turn left to leave the wood (view of the Chaîne des Puys).

Step 3 : Continue downhill, passing through the hamlet of La Graille (Christianized menhir and drinking troughs). With your back to the cross, head straight ahead for the return journey.

Additional information

For your own safety, always take a bottle of water, a hat, warm clothing and footwear suitable for walking.
Depending on weather conditions, certain itineraries are not recommended in bad weather (fog) or are not practicable, or even forbidden, during the winter season.
Some sites are fragile, so stay on the marked trails. Avoid picking wild flowers and disturbing wildlife. Pick up your garbage.
Animals are not allowed on some routes.

Access

On the D2089, 2 km south of Rochefort-Montagne, take the D552 towards Le Barry, then Lacoux. Go up and through the village, and in a right-hand bend take a wide dirt track. Parking lot 200 m away.
