This gentle path provides easy access for novice cyclists and pedestrians to the beaches of Lac Chambon and the town of Chambon-sur-Lac, or simply to walk around the lake.
Situated between the communes of Chambon-sur-Lac and Murol, Lac Chambon is a place to relax and stroll for tourists and locals alike. Of volcanic origin, it was created 16,000 years ago by flows from the nearby Tartaret volcano.
To make the area easily accessible and to integrate it into the life of the communes, a greenway has been laid out to link them together. 9 km of cycle paths, divided into two loops :
– 1st loop : around Lac Chambon
Walk or cycle around the lake :
Start from the western beach, also known as plage de Chambon, a very natural area with a small sandy beach and a grassy area for relaxation (leisure center, paddling pool for children, mini-market, playground and tourist office). From this beach, you can also walk or cycle to the town of Chambon-sur-Lac and back.
Pedestrians can walk around the lake on wooden pontoons above the wetland, reaching the Murol beach through the beech grove and returning along the shore to their starting point, following the lake all the way. Cyclists will follow the greenway (excluding pontoons) for a 4.5 km circuit and discover a wilder landscape, passing along the couze river before rejoining the beech grove and Murol beach.
Greenway (without pontoons) : 4.5 km (pedestrians, cyclists, baby carriages).
Green route via wooden pontoons : 3.5 km, approx. 1h (pedestrian only).
– The second loop starts at Murol beach and leads to the village of the same name :
From Murol beach, pedestrians can access Murol town via the Tartaret path and discover the volcano summit (1h loop), or like cyclists and families with baby carriages, follow the greenway leading to the town center via rue de Charreton. The itinerary continues via rue de Jassaguet, then above the pharmacy along a small path through the campsite, until you reach the starting point.
