At the foot of a 12th-century fortified castle, 850 m above sea level in the Sancy massif, the Azureva vacation village of Murol has chosen its era : the Middle Ages. Here, children cross swords in foam under the guidance of a costumed fencing master, evenings are transformed into medieval banquets, and the castle overlooks each day as a permanent reminder that we’ve left everyday life behind. The kind of vacation where you come back with knightly tales to tell.

This is no pasteboard setting. Murol castle is just a few minutes’ walk away, with its live chivalry shows and historical re-enactments. At the vacation village, the entertainment team plays the game to the hilt : swordfighting for young and old, ancient games, themed evenings with period menus, tournaments and big games. Children aged 6 to 17 have their own program at the club, while parents explore the volcanoes or treat themselves to a wellness massage.

The village lies between two natural wonders. On one side, Lac Chambon and its emerald waters for swimming, paddle-boarding and pedal-boating. On the other, the Puy de Sancy, the highest peak in the Massif Central, accessible by cable car or on foot for the more athletic. In between, 600 km of marked trails for hiking and mountain biking, farm inns to sample truffade and saint-nectaire, and Vulcania to immerse children in the world of volcanoes.

Multisport field, table tennis, table soccer, children’s playground. Outdoors, downhill mountain biking from Super-Besse, electric-assist quadbikes, canoeing on the lake, via ferrata, paragliding, horseback riding… Local partnerships give access to preferential rates. Guided hikes with a mountain guide leave every week in summer, with marmot-watching on Fridays.
