We’re based in the very heart of Thiers, the city of knives, in a former tannery that became a cutlery factory and is now our home. We welcome you to rooms furnished in the Japanese tradition and with respect for Japanese aesthetics. The architecture and interior design are borrowed from the Ryokan and Minshuku lodgings of the Island of the Rising Sun. Floors are covered with tatami (woven straw). The spaces and interior decor combine wood, shoji, coffee table, tokonoma, ikebana, print and okimono. A yukata (cotton kimono) is provided, as are household linen, including bath towels. It’s customary to remove your shoes on entering the house and to walk barefoot on the tatami mats ! Woven rice-straw setta are available for outdoor use. Set between the river and the millstream, the house is an island opening onto its garden and the river.
