La Bourboule Town Hall building

Commissioned by the Compagnie des Eaux Minérales, it was built by architect Léon Picard in 1891.

This former Casino des Thermes, known as the Casino des Cariatides, in reference to the Greek goddesses on the balcony and façade.
Bought by Chardon in 1901, then by the town around 1910,(…)

Commissioned by the Compagnie des Eaux Minérales, it was built by architect Léon Picard in 1891.

This former Casino des Thermes, known as the Casino des Cariatides, in reference to the Greek goddesses on the balcony and façade.
Bought by Chardon in 1901, then by the town around 1910, it became the site of the town hall in 1913.

Inside, the cast-iron grand staircase made it easy to be seen by everyone. And yes, the gossip had to be fed !
It rests on a complex interplay of trachy-andesite pillars and basket-handle arches.

The ornate pediments of the upstairs landing doors are surmounted by a set above the doors painted on canvas in 1893 by Charles Gouin. They evoke the leisure and pleasures available in spa towns at the time.

The building now houses the town hall, tourist office, post office and municipal theater.
