Saint-Gorgon chapel

Compains

The chapel is located around 2 km north of the village of Compains, facing Lac de Montcineyre.

The Saint-Gorgon chapel is a jewel in the crown of the Cézallier rural heritage. Built in 1843, its circular shape, rare in Auvergne, local stone walls and lauze roof topped by a lava cross give it a rustic, typically regional charm. This devotional site, built near a spring and dedicated to Saint Gorgon, a Roman officer who became a Christian martyr, is an invitation to stroll and contemplate in the heart of a volcanic landscape of meadows and woods.
