Château de Busséol, built in 1170 on a volcanic dyke, is a fortified castle overlooking the Limagne. It is the oldest and most historic castle in the Auvergne county. It was built to defend access to Vic le Comte. It belonged to several kings and queens of France. It withstood the onslaught of soldiers during the Hundred Years’ War. Spared by Richelieu, it remained inhabited until the French Revolution. Restored from 1966 onwards, the current owner presents an exceptional circular fireplace, furniture and weapons and armor evoking feudal life. The tour ends on the parapet walk leading to a “singular” medieval garden.
