Whether an archetypal 18th-century “Folie”, a charming residence for pleasure or a country house, Portabéraud’s destiny is linked to a notable man from Rion, Baron Gabriel Mercier (1716-1793), who left us a marvellous testimony to the spirit of the Age of Enlightenment. He became the first mayor of Mozac in 1790.

As you stroll through the gardens, you’ll discover the art of ironwork that is omnipresent on the site, the chapel with its painted medallions, stuccoes and remarkable tribune, and the terracotta statues.
Just a stone’s throw from the Abbey Church of Saint-Pierre de Mozac, whose treasures include remarkable Romanesque capitals.
