Notre-Dame du Marthuret Church

Riom

The most northerly example of Languedoc Gothic, this church contains treasures such as the famous Virgin with a Bird and the Annunciation stained glass window.

Built in the Languedoc Gothic style in 1308, the church was remodeled and enlarged in the 19th century. The neo-Gothic portal bears a copy of the Virgin and Bird, whose polychrome original, dating from the late 14th century, is preserved inside. It was saved during the French Revolution by the butchers’ guild, who hid it in a cellar. Tactile model of the church (2016).
